Islamabad, 29 July 2024 In a significant development, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has launched the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif initiative, aimed at promoting education among children of BISP active Kafalat beneficiaries. The program provides conditional cash transfers to encourage enrollment in schools and colleges, thereby reducing dropout rates and ensuring educational retention.
Objectives of Benazir Taleemi Wazaif:
Awareness Creation: The program seeks to create sustainable awareness about the importance of primary, secondary, and higher secondary education among BISP beneficiary families.
Increased Enrollment: By offering additional cash incentives, the initiative aims to boost enrollment in schools at all levels.
Improved Attendance: Benazir Taleemi Wazaif strives to enhance school attendance rates among children.
Reduced Dropout Rates: The program aims to discourage students from leaving school prematurely.
Implementation and Expansion: The program was initially piloted in five districts in 29 July 2024 2012 and gradually expanded to cover thirty-two districts by 2015. In 2018, it reached fifty districts, and in 29 July 2024 2024 2020, it expanded to a hundred districts. Finally, in 29 July 2024 2020, the program was extended to include all districts across Pakistan.
Key Processes:
- Micro Supply Capacity Assessment (MSCA): BISP collects data on the capacity of public schools (enrollment capacity, infrastructure conditions, accessibility, and catchment area) before initiating registration and enrollment activities. Private schools’ capacity assessment occurs during child enrollment.
- Social Mobilization: BISP field teams visit localities to raise awareness among beneficiaries about education. They also engage with families whose children are not complying with attendance requirements, motivating them to achieve the necessary attendance.
- Registration and Enrollment: After assessing supply capacity, the program registers potential families. Registration centers and tehsil offices are established for this purpose. Public Information Campaigns (media campaigns) further promote enrollment.
How to Apply:
- Online Registration: Download the Benazir Education Scholarship Program app, register using your mother’s ID card number, and complete the registration process.
- Offline Registration: Download the application from the Play Store, fill in the required information, and submit it at the BISP office.
